Punches
The eight punches a crew member records on a ride, in order, and what happens when you tap one.
A punch is your record that something happened on a ride. Punches are how HealthyRides knows when you arrived, so tap each one when it is true.
Walkthrough
- On Current leg, tap the punch that matches what you just did, such as En route.
- The screen asks you to confirm. It shows the punch name and two buttons: Cancel and Yes followed by the punch name, such as Yes, en route.
- Tap Yes to record it. The button reads Recording… while it saves. Tap Cancel and nothing is recorded.
- For Waiting — patient not ready, a box asks Why is the patient not ready? Type a short reason, for example "in imaging". It is optional.
- After a punch is saved, the buttons update to what comes next.
- After Complete, the screen reads No punch available. The leg is closed.
What the fields and statuses mean
The punches, in order:
- En route: you are on your way to the pickup.
- At door: you are at the pickup door.
- At nurses desk: you are at the nurses desk. A ride's on-time result is measured on this punch.
- Waiting — patient not ready: the patient is not ready to go. This starts the wait clock.
- Departed: you are leaving with the patient.
- Arrived: you are at the destination.
- Patient handed off: the patient is in the destination's hands.
- Complete: you are done. This closes the leg.
Three punches also move the ride forward: At nurses desk, Departed and Complete. The others are recorded only. They are offered whenever the leg is open, so you can say you are at the door at any time. A move-forward punch is offered only when the ride is in a state that allows it, so you cannot skip ahead.
Every punch is stamped with the time it is recorded, and the facility and your dispatchers can see it on the ride.
Common questions
I punched, and it says the ride had already moved on.
The message reads Punch recorded, but the ride had already moved on. Your punch is saved. Another crew member or a dispatcher moved the ride first. Refresh the page to see the current state.
I tapped the wrong punch.
If you have not confirmed yet, tap Cancel. After you confirm, a punch cannot be edited. Tell your dispatcher.
Why can't I see every punch?
The console shows only the punches that fit the ride's state. A closed ride offers none.
Does the console send my location?
Yes. With every punch, the console asks your phone for its location and sends it along with the punch. Your browser asks your permission the first time.
If Location is off or no fix arrives within about 10 seconds, the punch is still recorded and still counts. It is marked unverified, and the screen shows Location off — punches will be flagged. To turn Location on, go to Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services on an iPhone or iPad, or Chrome › Site settings › Location on Android.
